Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare (1991)

 

Well, we had to end up here eventually, hadn't we? 

Is this by far the worst in the series? Unequivocally yes. But Robert Englund is always fun to watch, so there's a little comfort in this.

Where even to begin?

Through some undisclosed means, now there is still one kid left over from the Elm Street parents and Freddy is using him to get locked onto a new bunch of teenagers in some sort of psychiatric/teen ward of sorts, and then there's a therapist who wants to help them, but her idea is to take the kids to some random town where apparently Freddy originally did his deeds and then it's never disclosed what is real or dream but suddenly Freddy has the magical powers to keep an entire town in his thrall by day and...

Well, this is one big mess. It's hard to say what is worse: the sloppy and nonsensical editing or the lack of any real story. Or the sub-par acting by most of the people here. Egad, sometimes you get better acting in telenovelas. 

There are hints of good ideas here: the idea that Freddy had a child who witnessed him brutally abusing the mother and the bizarre town where there are no longer children present and all the adults have gone bananas. This could work extremely well in a better project, but not here. The explanation for Freddy having his powers now boils down to three demonic spermcreatures that possessed him when he was set ablaze, which makes no sense. The vengeful killer that came back is way more compelling for starters. Freddy is now a oneliner spouting, wisecracking goofball and the kills are hilarious instead of disturbing or creative. The videogame is by far the worst offender of the lot. Englund is having a blast, but you can tell he knows it's absolutely ridiculous and the makeup is atrocious this time around. 

And the ending leaves so much to be desired it is not even funny anymore. 

Nope, skip this one. Avoid at all costs, unless you are a masochist hell bent on wondering where those 90 minutes of your life went to.
