The idea for this adventure is sound: drop an astronaut from a different galaxy onto prehistoric Earth and let him try and survive together with a young girl as they need to get off the planet just before the infamous asteroid hits. Let Adam Driver carry the load and you're supposed to be off to a decent start, right?

Sad to say this isn't really the case. A shame, really.

Adam Driver's character is something of a space trucker of sorts and he's supposed to drop people in cryostasis off somewhere. But then a freak meteor shower damages the ship and it crashes. You'd think a super-advanced vessel might be fitted with enough warnings and emergency systems to avoid said meteor shower, but apparently the warning signs only kick in when the closest rock is about three feet away.

So much for advanced societies, I guess.

At first, it seems the planet he's on is okay. It's desolate forest, with some occasional critters and Driver just wants to die here, as in the meantime his daughter apparently dies as well (this part is pretty unclear for some time thanks to deleted scenes, probably). But then he discovers that a young girl also survived the crash. And before you can say 'surrogate daughter', they're off towards the escape shuttle that also miraculously made it. Except it's about 15 kilometres away and apparently only dangerous carnivorous dinosaurs roam the land in between.

Oh, and the asteroid is coming as well.

Insert chase scenes and forced conflict about Driver's character lying about the girls' parents here. It doesn't amount to much, though and feels like a hamfisted attempt at a third act swerve. With two T rex and something that can only be described as an insanely overpowered/oversized/roided up Postosuchus kind of creature.

Yeah, the dinosaurs here are more fantasy than fact. Which is a little weird because this film seems to be tailormade for dinosaur fans, but they would notice the weird designs and illogical size immediately. 

Yes, we are that facetious. It's part of our charm.

In any case, Driver does his best, but it doesn't amount to much except CG chases. The film does have a couple of decent jumpscares that are effective but on the whole it's a bit of a letdown, alas. There are better genrefilms out there. It's passable and it's okay if you just want to pass some time, but don't expect anything amazing. Be ready for something more along the lines of mundane and nothing special. If only the studio had gone all in, this might have turned out better, as it is now a bit of a waste of a decent actor.
