Thor: Love and Thunder (2022)

Well, this certainly wasn't what was expected.

The first 'Thor' was a fun ride, the second was pretty forgettable and pointless and then the third came around to be the most fun there was to be had in a long time. And this one?

Wait until the end.

Thor is traipsing across the galaxy with the Guardians, but pretty soon it becomes apparent they are sick of him and he goes off because there is a new threat: Gorr the God Killer.

Gorr is actually the most interesting character in a long time. That might explain why he's only in the entire film for all of five minutes.

Not the best choice, Marvel.

Thor returns to Earth and discovers Jane Foster has now transformed into Lady Thor, because if she stays 'normal', she is rapidly succumbing to cancer.

Shit just took a turn to the dark.

Gorr then kidnaps the Asgardian children, which prompts Thor, Jane and Valkyrie to seek the help of all the other gods, who don't care. Thor then kills Zeus and steals the thunderbolt in the hopes of defeating Gorr with this. Then it's off to the Shadow Realm and the final showdown and I'm actually bored typing this.

Egad, this film irks me.

There is one massively glaring problem with this one: it can't decide on tone and thus goes all over the place. The dark moments are actually quite compelling and good, but then the entire story is fucked over thanks to really lame humour and bad jokes that never truly land. It is absolutely grating at times.

Bonus points to the two giant goats who do nothing but scream all the time and are extremely annoying. Why are they included in this film? No one knows.

The fact that Thor's axe acts jealous, is also pretty bloody lame and annoying.

Have I mentioned yet this film irks me to no end?

The film really switrches between tones too drastically for any of it to hit home and as a result, this is a poor excuse for a comedy and a poor attempt at drama.

At least Christian Bale and Russell Crowe are entertaining.
