Delgo (2008)

Oof, this one bombed. Hàrd. And upon seeing this film, you can totally understand why. Sure, it has a pretty star-studded cast, that is true. But everything else is sorely lacking, alas.

On an unnamed planet, two races known as the Lokni and the Nohrin, are at odds with one another. The Nohrin have oppressed the Lokni and tensions are always high. But Delgo, a Lokni kid, falls in love with Kyla, a Nohrin princess. Meanwhile, the absolutely evil sister of the Nohrin king - Sedessa - is plotting to come back, becoming empress and annihilating the Lokni.

Yeah, the script didn't venture out into unknown waters much.

In fact, everything is so infuriatingly bland and predictable, it's damn near insulting. The dialogue is inane and all actors are wasted, just reading their mlines without much gusto. Heck, it's been a while since Louis Gosset, Michael Clarke Duncan or Anne Bancroft sounded so bored.

And let's say you can ignore the extremely basic story, there's the animation which is equally bland. The colours are flat, the designs are mostly ugly and without much inventiveness and you can tell they had about six character models that they sort of gave a new colour. No joke: the bad guys' army is comprised of two different types of character models and some of them just have a different colourscheme, but everything else is exactly the same. Now copy-pasting does cut back on time and effort, that is true, but considering this film was in production for several years, you'd think they did something of an effort, right?

Right?

The film also stops incredibly abruptly, but after a mere 80 minutes, you'll be glad it did anyway. It's boring, longwinded, predictable and with annoying comic relief. Just ignore it, and maybe it will go away.
