Wayne's World (1992)
Breaking the fourth wall your kind of thing? Well then, you've come to the right place. And then some.
Most of you will probably be aware that the concept of 'Wayne's World' is based on short skits during Saturday Night Live. Then you can also ask yourself the very valid question of how the friggin' hell you could possibly turn this into a film that is about 90 minutes long.
The answer is: you don't. Not really. You just string jokes together with the thinnest of threads (aka a plot of sorts) and then let everything become as weird, bizarre and hilariously funny as you possibly can.
And that is exactly what happened.
Wayne and Garth are two losers still living at home and they make a shoddy TV-show on local television. They get swindled by a smooth producer, while all the time Wayne is trying to get the girl of his dreams. And a guitar.
Truly, you don't watch this for the plot or in depth analyses of the human psyche. You watch this because you can have a jolly good time while doing so. The fact that this is basically a series of sketches threaded together doesn't even become troublesome, you just go with it. Not only that, but there are so many quotable moments here.
Seriously, most of the catchphrases that Wayne and Garth use are nowadays staples. Excellent! Party time! Schwing!
Really, there's not a lot to say about this one. If you're part of the original MTV generation (before they dropped music and became nothing but celebrity tripe) and you like your humour fast, silly and sometimes just weird, then this is the thing for you.
If you're not really attracted to what amounts to 90 minutes of silliness and extremely loosely connected jokes, then you'd better give this a pass...
NOT!
Sorry, I couldn't help myself. But I'm pretty sure both Monty Python and 'Wayne's World' have given me my peculiar brand of humour. So there's that. And seafood.
